House Rules

July 10th.

I can’t recall the last time it rained prior to today.

A brief afternoon sunshower leaves the asphalt puddled, the air heavy and humid.

This week has felt … long.

Not like in an arduous way… but long the way I imagine or better yet, the way I remember half an hour being long when I was a child.

Only five minutes have gone by since I last looked at the clock and I’m actually in disbelief that it hasn’t been at least 15.

An abundance of time.

It’s funny that children are always … in a hurry.

In a hurry to grow up.

Modeling their play after what they see adults doing.

The roles adults have to play.

We’re all just role playing what we think it is to be an adult based on what the adults we observed growing up were doing…

Obviously…

But also…

Once you identify that… you look at it all very different.

No one really knows what they’re doing…

If you weren’t prescribed any blueprint whatsoever … no imprint from any adult figures in your life…

Who would you be?

What would you be doing?

What would make you happy?
